On January 19, 2023, my nephew Christian Thornton is pictured sitting at his desktop computer and he is listening to a worship song Holy Spirit gave me.

Earlier that Thursday I was in the kitchen. I raised the lid of the metallic trash receptacle. Looked inside and saw the plastic bag was full. I lifted the bag out of the gray receptacle and pulled the yellow plastic draw strings to close it.

Suddenly a melody and two words came to me. I started to sing:

Glo_Ry Halle_Lujah!

Glo_Ry Halle_Lujah!

Glo_Ry_Hal_Le_Lu_Jah!

Glo_Ry Halle_Lujah!

I sang that melody rhythmically, as I exited the kitchen, walked through the short hallway, entered the laundry room and opened the door to the garage.

I continued to sing as I exited the garage and opened the side gate on the east side of the house. After I tossed the white bag in the blue trash barrel I rushed inside. I sung “Glory Hallelujah” so I wouldn’t forget the melody.

I went straight to the walk-in closet, where I recorded my four audiobooks on Noah, story of rich man/Lazarus, Judas and Jesus Christ three years earlier.

I hastily closed the walk-in closet door, inserted AirPods in my ears and searched for my Voice Memos app on my iPhone. I opened the app, touched the red circular record button displayed at the bottom of the screen and sung. After hearing the playback of that first recording, I recorded the song a second time without AirPods. That recording was a lot better.

I emailed that two minute and six second Voice Memos audio recording to Christian. Hours later —I’m wearing Christian’s headset and I’m singing into his music production microphone.

He encouraged me to improvise. That’s what I did. I sung as many vocal parts which came to mind while he recorded me.

What you hear in “Glory Hallelujah” is a result of me worshipping the LORD in that recording session.

A week later (on February 26) the second part of “Glory Hallelujah” came to me while bathing.

Hal_Le_Lu_Jah!

Praise Ye the LORD!

Hal_Le_Lu_Jah!

Praise Ye the LORD

Hal_Le_Lu_Jah!

Praise Ye the LORD!

Hal_Le_Lu_Jah!

Praise Ye the LORD!

I recorded that part on Sunday, January 29. Artists know it’s good to compose a song or write a draft and then marinate on it for awhile.

“Glory Hallelujah” (3:12 in length) was completed on February 9, 2023, exactly three weeks after Holy Spirit initially inspired me to sing it —while doing something mundane like emptying trash.

I’m reminded of these two scriptural passages. Psalm 98:1 reads “O sing unto the LORD A NEW SONG…” and Ephesians 5:19 states “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING and MAKING MELODY in your heart to the LORD.”

I pray this Holy Spirit inspired NEW SONG ushers you in God’s presence and ministers to you as it has ministered to Christian and me.

(“Glory Hallelujah” was inspired by Holy Spirit. Vocals by Ronald F. Owens Jr. Christian Thornton produced/engineered this worship song.)
